Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running. The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight. The veteran finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
