🔗 Share this article Wolff Set to Divest Shareholding Valuing Mercedes F1 at £4.6bn Team Principal Wolff has guided Mercedes to historic success in F1 Toto Wolff is engaged in advanced talks to offload a portion of his ownership stake in the Mercedes Formula 1 team. The deal estimates Mercedes at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5bn in a change of ownership structure last September. Wolff, who owns a 33% stake of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a shareholding approximately 5%. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team principal and CEO if the sale goes through. Ownership Breakdown Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who each also own one-third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We are providing no official statement on this. The governance of the team will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are fully committed to the ongoing success of the brand in F1." Valuation Growth This arrangement signifies a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos bought its stake for £208m in 2022. This surge reflects the growth in market values of F1 teams in the past few years due to the increasing appeal of the sport globally. This was also seen in the success of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed over $630 million (£458 million) at the box office. It is the actor's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning sports movie to date. Present Performance The Mercedes team are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren, with three Grands Prix left this season. Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 grands prix so far and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. The team secured a record eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
