COP30 signifies the thirtieth conference of the parties to the UN framework convention on climate change (UNFCCC), which acts as the overarching accord to the Paris accord. This major event is will be held in Belem, near the mouth of the Amazon in the Brazilian Amazon.

Amazon Protection Initiative

The Conservation Financing Mechanism seeks to change these economic incentives by providing payments to governments and indigenous populations to prevent deforestation. For the nation's head of state, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this is the primary focus for the upcoming conference. He hopes the fund could achieve a worth of 125 billion dollars (£95 billion), with twenty-five billion dollars expected from wealthy states and official bodies, while the majority would be raised from corporate funding and capital markets. To date, the program has achieved around five billion dollars. The United Kingdom is one large developed country that has not provided funding.

Toward this objective, the Brazilian government has appointed individuals and groups from internationally to guide and contribute in its equity evaluation. A study to be presented at COP30 will concentrate on fairness in climate policy.
